The Cooking Workshop will take participants through the many stages of where our food comes from, beginning with sourcing local and seasonal ingredients. There will be an emphasis on rudiments of kitchen techniques, beginning with safety and moving to knife skills, heat control and application, mother sauces, and more. Wednesday will culminate with a family dinner, during which families are invited to join us for a meal showcasing what we've learned!

The Naturalist Skills Workshop will build campers' knowledge of the natural world around us -- particularly the array of native plants and animals that surround us here in Durham. We will utilize field guides and other tools to identify and document the species that we find, and campers will end the program with their own naturalist journals. We'll tap into both contemporary science and native wisdom to deepen our understanding of the ways in which organisms -- including humans -- are connected.

The Storytelling Workshop is focused on the art and craft of storytelling: why we tell stories, story traditions around the world, and how to create and tell stories of their own. Campers will build confidence in their storytelling abilities through games, read-alouds, and prompts. Friday will culminate with an invitation to families to join us around the campfire and hear stories from those who'd like to share.

In this four-part intensive workshop series, campers will hone their abilities with a deep dive into a particular skill. These workshops are open to all levels of ability and no experience is required; however, due to the intensive theme-based nature of the program, campers should be interested in and curious about the topic. Each workshop is a standalone program, but campers are welcome to join us for several (or all!) of the workshops.
